TaskRabbit for Good gives back: meet our fall 2020 grantee winners

Giving back and supporting the communities we serve is integral to TaskRabbit’s mission. That’s why we’re continuing to give back to small grassroots organizations this Giving Tuesday through TaskRabbit For Good’s (TR4G) community grant program.

Recipients of this grant are all closely aligned with TR4G’s mission of helping neighbors in need find work and a place to call home, and we’re excited to award them each a $10,000 grant to continue their great work. Keep reading to learn more about our winners.

Family Promise of Greater Orlando helps homeless families get back on their feet and find sustainable housing and self-sufficiency as quickly as possible. One of the family’s they helped said:

“I was about seven months pregnant, when we became homeless. We had to sleep in our car. I didn’t know where my baby would sleep or what car seat I would have. A family friend pointed me to Family Promise. I knew I wanted a better life for my children. I worked closely with my case manager. He helped to give me hope and also helped me I find a possible place to live. I jumped at it very quickly because I knew it would be a safe place for me and my kids. You just gotta keep pushing, even when you want to give up.  My case manager helped me so much. He believed in me and motivated me. I work at a restaurant now and they are talking to me about a promotion. I have four children who depend on my solely, and I can’t give up on them. If I can do it, anybody can do it.” – Raven, a Family Promise success story

As the only drop-in day centre in Brighton & Hove for 16-25-year olds experiencing homelessness The Clock Tower Sanctuary provides a vital lifeline of support for young people, who often have nowhere else to turn. One of the young people they helped said:

“I had been renting a flat but when I lost my job, I couldn’t afford to pay the rent. I have no family around, so I started sofa surfing with friends, but after a while I ran out of people to stay with and spent two weeks rough sleeping. It was really scary. I slept under bridges, in parks. But I didn’t really sleep, I couldn’t…I relied a lot on The Clock Tower Sanctuary for food and having somewhere you feel safe. When I had nowhere to go, I could come here and eat amazing food and have people to talk to.” Sarah, aged 21
