Tasker Spotlight: Mom & Handywoman Kathryn K., Miami

At TaskRabbit, we’re proud to help people make a meaningful living on their own terms. From finding flexibility to pursue other passions, to building a business, to saving money for a life goal, Taskers join our community for a diverse range of reasons. In our Tasker Spotlight series, we highlight the people at the heart of TaskRabbit.

We chatted with Kathryn about her life in Miami and how she hopes to set an example for her kids as a handywoman Tasker. Here’s what she had to say:

How has TaskRabbit affected your life?

TaskRabbit has helped me find work that fits into my busy schedule as a mom of four. I need something flexible, and again, it’s a huge bonus to be doing something I love while making an additional income. I also love that my kids get to see that women can do all sorts of jobs, including tasks that a lot of people consider “men’s work.”

Do you have any standout tasking memories?

Yes—assembling an IKEA wardrobe for a couple who had purchased the item 6 months before. They had attempted to assemble it themselves (unsuccessfully), then shoved the partially assembled unit under the bed. There it remained until the day they discovered that IKEA offered assembly services through TaskRabbit!

Another great experience was joining fellow Miami Taskers to refurbish the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student government classroom, which had a lot of meaning to me as a member of the Douglas community; my daughter will be attending the school this Fall. It was an amazing experience to be a part of that.

What values and attitudes do you try to live by?

I try to see everything as a challenge, rather than letting frustration get the best of me. I also see each meeting with a new Client as an opportunity to make a meaningful connection with someone in my community. I’ve gained additional work—and even new friends—by treating each job as a chance to really connect with people on a human level.

What was the most rewarding thing about your transition to becoming a Tasker?

Truly, it’s the sense of fulfillment I get when I’m paid to do something I’ve always enjoyed doing.
