Task of the Week: Last Minute Replacement

DIY projects can leave you with a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, but the road isn’t always so smooth.  Life happens, and sometimes you need a little assistance.  When do-it-yourself doesn’t quite pan out, TaskRabbit is there to help get the job done. Portland homeowner Desiree and her fiancé had already spent days removing vinyl siding and applying primer to the exterior of their home.  Knowing that rain was in the forecast, they had to finish painting the house before the following week or risk damaging all the work they’d already done.  Then her partner ruptured his Achilles tendon playing basketball!  When things go wrong and you’re on a deadline, what can you do? We’re glad to report that Desiree’s fiancé is feeling much better now, and that the painting project was finished on schedule thanks to Taskers Lauren E., and Alex K. Desirée said: “I was skeptical,” but, “I sent out several requests. It was late Thursday night, and I was trying to find help for the next three days, on a holiday weekend. Miraculously, I found people to help …

TASK OF THE WEEK: PRETEND TO BE A CONTESTANT ON “THE APPRENTICE”

The long, cold winter nights in London are made merry by hanging out with friends,  celebrating birthdays, and re-enacting TV shows. One of our Clients, Charli, has a friend who is obsessed with The Apprentice, so Charli made her friend’s birthday party even more entertaining by hiring a Tasker to pretend to be an Apprentice contestant. London-based Tasker Tim was up for the challenge, dressing up in a natty suit with red tie and bantering with the group as they barraged him with questions. This group of friends has serious video editing skills, producing their own personalized trailer for the show. We really enjoy all the ways people use TaskRabbit to get things done, either serious or silly. Whatever you need done, we can help.

TASK OF THE WEEK: IMPERSONATE ME AT A BIRTHDAY PARTY

Let’s say you live hundreds of miles away from a very good friend who’s having a birthday party. Most people would fire off a text message or a Facebook post to send their best wishes. Not Marissa, a very clever TaskRabbit Client who hired LA-based Tasker, DaVette, to attend the party in her stead, pretending to be her, telling inside jokes and making references to stories only Marissa and her friends knew. While DaVette was cracking up her crew at the bar, Marissa was getting text messages from her friends, “You are crazy and I love you. Thank you for teleporting,” and “This is the best. I love you and I hate you because I cannot top this present.” Check out the photo of the birthday girl and “Marissa”/DaVette! We love all the creative ways you use TaskRabbit to get things done! Have a task you’d like to see featured? Please tweet @TaskRabbit and let us know.

TASK OF THE WEEK: SAY IT AIN’T SNOW!

Happy Groundhog Day… but we didn’t need Punxsutawney Phil to see his shadow in order to predict another six weeks of winter. People in the Northeast and Midwest have been digging out from bouts of snow in the past week and TaskRabbit has been there to help. We’ve been shoveling cars out of snow drifts, clearing pathways to Clients’ doors, and helping people recover from the many inches dumped by the blizzard. (Boston, we’re looking at you!) So if you’ve got more snow than you know what to do with, hire a Tasker to take care of it while you focus on other things and stay warm inside.

TASK OF THE WEEK: DELIVER ICE CREAM CAKE TO MY GRANDPA

This one melts our hearts a bit – Alexandra wasn’t able to deliver her birthday greetings in person, so she got TaskRabbit on the case. Tasker Lan N. picked up an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins and surprised Alexandra’s grandpa with it. No word on how many candles were lit or if Lan got to sample the sweet delivery. If we can help you deliver a surprise gift or anything else on your to-do list, please let us know.

TASK OF THE WEEK: DELIVER SURPRISE TO A SAD BASEBALL FAN

It’s October, which means crisp air and baseball playoff season! This week’s Task of the Week features a surprise delivery to cheer up a lamenting fan whose team didn’t make the playoffs. Client Henry turned to TaskRabbit to spread some cheer to a friend who was bummed when her baseball team got knocked out of playoff contention. Tasker Carrie came to the rescue, delivering a 3-pack of canned whipped cream to Henry’s friend Dominique when she was at work. The hardest part of the task was getting Dominique to smile and pose for pictures with the surprise gift, photos that Henry plans to unveil at her future wedding ceremony. We’re sure there’s an inside joke here somewhere, and we always love seeing the creative ways people use TaskRabbit! How can we help you during playoff season? Let us know.

TASK OF THE WEEK: HAND-WRITE THANK YOU CARDS (I JUST HAD A BABY!)

When you’re a new mom, you have a great appreciation for the small things: the little one’s smile, a quick nap, an instant of free time, an extra pair of hands. Shara M. recently gave birth to a baby girl and realized she needed a second pair of hands to help out with various tasks that were piling up. Reaching out to TaskRabbit, she knocked out several errands that would have otherwise taken precious time away from the baby. Tasker Diane wrote thank you cards, returned gifts for store credit, and filed paperwork for Shara, helping return her New York apartment to a manageable state. New moms take note: we can also help out with laundry, house-cleaning, deliveries and more. Still no progress on outsourcing your naps to us, though.

TASK OF THE WEEK: SURPRISE MY BRIDE WITH A VISIT FROM OUR DOGS

Dogs are a big part of the TaskRabbit family, so we totally understand the sweetness of this task. Getting married at a hotel miles away from home, Andrew wanted to surprise his bride-to-be with a visit from their dogs. Tasker Mona frequently handles pet-sitting tasks, but this one was unique. The dogs, staying in the backyard of the bride’s parents’ house on the wedding day, were picked up and delivered to the bride for a few minutes of attention before being whisked back to the yard. The bride was incredibly happy to snuggle with her beloved four-legged friends at such an emotional time, and the dogs got to be a small part of the big day. We wonder if this task was posted under “Delivery” or “Pet-sitting.” Congratulations Andrew!

Apples Farmers Market

Task of the Week: Get Me the Apples

You know what’s great? Apples. Tumbling piles of fresh apples of all varieties. Cortlands and Galas and Honeycrisps — oh my! It’s that glorious time of year when your local farmers’ market makes a full pivot into full late / early winter glory. Now, if you could just find the time to get there. Oakland TaskPoster Lindsay H. didn’t have time to hit up her local market, but she wasn’t about to miss out on the season’s bounty. She decided to hire a TaskRabbit to pick up all her organic goodies. TaskRabbit Max G. was a produce pro. He went to Lindsay’s favorite farmers’ market, selected the freshest items, washed them, and separated them into Ziploc bags. How do you like them apples?

Task of the Week: Get Rid of These Leaves

There’s no doubt we’re firmly nestled into the fall season here, guys. The autumnal equinox was way back on September 22nd, pumpkin lattes have been flowing out of Starbucks for weeks, and our favorite network television shows are back in full swing. All the pretty green leaves turned to ruby and gold and purple and bronze, and then all the pretty leaves fell down. Into your yard. And they turned into a sorta soggy, sorta crunchy brown mess. Austin TaskPoster Marie H. decided to hire a TaskRabbit to tackle the mountains of leaves in her front yard. Chad H. showed up, grabbed a rake, and filled several garbage bags full of autumn’s bounty. Couldn’t you use a little help with your fall yard work?
