A “Hopped Up” Tale: Adventures of a Task Rabbit

Meet Ashley H, a Level 11 Runner for TaskRabbit in San Francisco.  While not running Tasks, Ashley is a freelance journalist, contributing to the Bold Italic, and a professor at Stanford (impressive!). She chronicles her experience as a Task Rabbit in an article entitled “Hopped Up”. In this post, Ashley details all the amazing stuff you can do as a TaskRabbit Runner – super fun things like “help me shoot a commercial” and “write a creative thank-you note to my parents for everything.” Ashley has certainly managed to get herself into some exciting things; she’s been a “paper flower fluffer,” a “stoplight delivery gal,” and a “psychology paper editor.” (Score for that Sender! It’s not everyday that a writing coach for Stanford’s Graduate School of Business reviews your paper!) Awesome stuff, Ashley! We’re glad your experience as a Task Rabbit has allowed you to dabble in a few different things and given you an opportunity to help your neighbors and local small business owners. It’s great to have you as part of the community! “Hopped Up” – the Bold …

April’s Runner of the Month is…

We know we say it a lot… But we love, love, love our Runners- we really do. They are the face of TaskRabbit and frankly, do all the work. (We just sit in our fancy office and watch while they do all the heavy lifting… literally.) More than that, our Runners are an extremely skilled bunch (they can help you with anything!) and each Runner goes through a thorough application process so you’re sure to get only the highest quality help. They all deserve to be recognized for all their lugging, hauling, repairing and hard work. And that is exactly the goal of this monthly blog post. Each month, we will be recognizing our top Runners as part of what we are calling the Runner of the Month Club (real original- we know)… and we would like to start now! Runner of the Month: April 2011 Our inaugural Runner of the Month is Derek de Santiago. Derek is a Level 18 Runner in San Francisco. Derek is a track and field student athlete at USF …

Gaming With TaskRabbit – Introducing our New Runner Level Program!

This week, we launched our brand new Runner Level Program and it is starting to feel like we are deep in the throes of an old-school Nintendo video game. There has been a lot of talk around the office of how many points so-and-so has, how many points so-and-so needs to level up, and intense discussion of who will hit level 25 first. Oh, it definitely takes me back to when I was 13 and dominating Super Mario Brothers. So what is the new Runner Level Program, you ask? Really, it’s more than just a game. It is a cool new way to distinguish Runners based on their TaskRabbit activity and experience. Take a look at the yellow circle next to any Runner’s profile pic. This number is the Runner Level. Runners improve their Runner Level by earning points, which are collected through different TaskRabbit activities, like running Tasks (of course!), introducing a new Sender to TaskRabbit, bidding quickly, and more. Over the next few weeks, we will be rolling out new ways for Runners to …

(Talented) People Helping People…It’s Powerful Stuff!

I founded TaskRabbit with the mission to connect people with unique needs to people who have the time and skills to meet those needs.  As a wise man (actually it was Vince Vaughn in Wedding Crashers) once said, “People helping people.  It’s powerful stuff.”  Vince is right. I’ve have seen the power of  “people helping people” in action everyday since I founded TaskRabbit nearly 3 years ago. Our Runners never cease to amaze me; these folks are ridiculously talented. They are experienced and amazing photographers, videographers, chefs, writers, and so much more. I continually hear feedback from Taskers that they are struck by the quality of skilled work done by our Runner community. So much so, in fact, that our Runners are often replacing “professional whatevers”- photographers, chefs, handymen, etc.- to get things done. Consequently, I am now (more than ever) on a mission to make the unique talents and skills of our Runners known to the community- you know, a sort of “Etsy for services.”  I want to put a spotlight on these Runners …

Runner Story of the Week

Every day TaskRabbit Runners are out in the community, meeting people, helping people, and doing amazing things.  Each Task isn’t just a Dry Cleaning pick up or a Post Office Run – it’s an hour saved in someone’s life.  That hour can be turned into a special moment with your kid, or that extra hour needed to really impress your boss at the office.  It’s invaluable time. Here is a great example of an amazing story that goes beyond Task running.  This is about making an impact in a family’s life and the invaluable return one mother got by using TaskRabbit.  From her Runner …. My best story in 3+ months of tasking was helping out a woman whose 20 year old son was receiving chemo and treatment for cancer at MGH. She wanted fresh, healthy food delivered to him from Whole Foods as well as a bunch of herbal and natural remedies and a soft, cozy blanket. She couldn’t make it out from California to take care of him, but asked me to give …

Remember the Milk…wait, milk?

While innovations like smartphones and laptops have made things more convenient in a number of ways, they have also managed to make our everyday lives more hectic, simply by virtue of the common sentiment that everything is easier to do, and you’re expected to get it all done, so how do you prioritize tasks? (*Must remember, take heartburn meds after eating Buffalo wings…)

Thankfully, someone turned me on to Remember the Milk. (Should have named it “Remember the Heartburn Meds…”)

TaskRabbit Launches TaskRabbit Metrowest!

You called – We answered. We’ve had SO many requests for Runners in the Metrowest neighborhoods that we took things one step further and launched TASKRABBIT METROWEST! This marks the first official local launch of TaskRabbit. Who KNOWS where our next launch might be…it might even be in your neighborhood! What does this mean for TaskRabbit Members? You will now see a link to MY CITY in the upper right hand corner of TaskRabbit.com. Here, you can switch your city from TaskRabbit BOSTON to TaskRabbit METROWEST. Members in the Metrowest area can now post their tasks specifically to Metrowest Runners, which means more localized attention and speedier task pick ups. TaskRabbit is growing by LEAPS and BOUNDS (hop!) Whether you need a Runner to help you build Ikea furniture in the Greater Boston area OR you need coffee from Pete’s Coffee in Newton Center…there’s a Runner for that and they are right around the corner. Neighbors helping neighbors. It’s who we are and what we do. Spread the love. @TaskRabbit Facebook.com/TaskRabbit
