Task of the Week: Feed This College Student

You know that old cliche about college students surviving on ramen noodles? It doesn’t have to be that way. If someone you love is heading off to campus this fall, don’t send a tired old care package. Make like Theresa C. and send a delivery of healthy groceries instead. As a Level 20 TaskRabbit, Theresa knows a thing or two about how to make people’s lives easier. So when her sister started school in Chicago this week, Theresa (who lives in San Francisco) hired Chicago TaskRabbit Tanitah T. to pick up groceries from Whole Foods and personally deliver them. We love this Task for so many reasons: 1. It’s a great way to send some comfort to college students far from home. 2. It’s a not-so-subtle reminder to eat healthy foods (hey, it could even help stave off that freshman fifteen). 3. Many college students are on campuses without access to a car and this Task saves them a long trek. 4. This simple gift saves busy and broke students time and money. 5. We …

You don't have to do this alone.

Task of the Week: Help Me Run a Marathon

So you signed up to run a marathon, eh? You imagined waking up with the sun each day to an increasingly vigorous run. You bought that great pair of running shoes and some moisture-wicking clothing. You got the high SPF sunscreen and a subscription to Runner’s World. Maybe you even built in plenty of training time for yourself — a year? Six months? And if you’re anything like most of us, you probably slacked a little. Then a little more, until you noticed that marathon date sneaking up around the corner. Don’t panic. Just do what Chicago TaskPoster Renee B. did — hire a TaskRabbit to help motivate you. Jessica S. provides daily encouragement and accountability for Renee while she gets back into marathon shape. Genius. Couldn’t you use a running buddy?

Task of the Week: Create a Garden

Think it’s too late to get those summer flowers and veggies in the ground? Think again. When Chicago TaskPoster Jennifer F. decided to convert an old kids’ sandbox into a raised bed garden, she knew it was a race against the clock. So she did it in the quickest, most efficient way possible — she hired TaskRabbit Alejandro M. to do the overhaul. No stranger to creating raised bed gardens in the Chicagoland area, Alejandro majorly rocked the Task by bringing along his expertise, creativity, and green thumb. “Alex was awesome!! Came to the house before expected (a good thing), created such a vision from noting, and was great at communicating before and during process.” Those words (and exclamation points) belong to Jennifer F., and so does a gorgeous new sandbox garden.

TaskRabbit Takes Chicago: Techweek 2012

FRIDAY Chicago’s 2nd Annual Techweek didn’t just start with a bang on Friday — it started with a rallying call to action by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “The city of Chicago is known as the Second City. In three years from now it will be known as the Startup City.” The Mayor then went on to tell the room full of startups, press, and digital innovators that it would be his mission to partner with the leaders of the tech community here in Chicago. The energy of Emanuel’s speech spread from the main conference stage out into the 7th and 8th floors of the Merchandise Mart, and Team TaskRabbit was there to soak it all in and keep things running smoothly as the Official Concierge of Techweek. We started the morning right in the lobby of the iconic Art Deco building. Chicago TaskRabbits greeted attendees with Intelligentsia coffee and breakfast buns from Wow Bao. Later in the afternoon on the 8th floor of the event, conference attendees descended on the TaskRabbit Lounge for Goose Island 312 Urban …

Task of the Week: Do Something About This Heat

Did you know the summer solstice doesn’t refer to the day, but to the exact instant in time the axial tilt of the semi-axis of one of Earth’s hemispheres is most inclined toward the Sun? True story, Wikipedia told us. June 20th is not only the summer solstice for the Northern Hemisphere and the longest day of the year, it’s also going to be really, really hot. Not that it’s the first blistering day this month — TaskPosters in cities around the country have already been feeling the heat. So much so that they’ve hired TaskRabbits to help keep cool. New York TaskRabbit Erik B. is providing some heat relief for Hannah B. by installing a window AC unit in her 6th floor New York City apartment. He’s also giving Douglas W. a hand with the front window unit of his Park Slope home. Chicago TaskPoster Ramki S. tapped TaskRabbit Davidson F. to lug four AC units up from the basement and install them on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Need to cool down? Post …

Happy National Small Business Week

Maybe it’s because we’re a little obsessed with rebuilding that old-time neighborhood spirit, or maybe it’s because we’re a startup ourselves, but we love small businesses. We’re thrilled to celebrate National Small Business Week by surprising some of our favorite business owners across the country. In New York, TaskRabbit Autumn L. dropped off some delightful treats to some of our favorite small businesses. She delivered a bottle of champagne from Bottlerocket Wine & Spirit to the legendary macaron purveyors at Maison Ladurée. Next, Autumn grabbed a selection of local brews from Good Beer and dropped them off in time for the awesome team at Crumbs Bake Shop to have a happy hour celebration. City Swiggers also discovered the glory of beer and cupcake pairings when Autumn dropped off a dozen mini-cupcakes from Billy’s Bakery. After spending a few minutes figuring out his delivery route, Nick B. dropped off some tasty ‘lette macarons to Amelia and Erika, the owners of Lindy & Grundy. Chicago TaskRabbit Lillian R. braved the line at Hot Doug’s on Friday to pick …
